Every home, no matter how well built, has a way for the outside world to find its way in. Sometimes it is water. Sometimes it is wind. Every once in awhile, it is a raccoon!
One of our GEMS Members in Westlake’s Terra Bella discovered exactly that. A raccoon had made its way into the attic, and our team was called in to find out how, remove the problem, and make certain it could not happen again.
How the Raccoon Got In
When our team arrived, the first task was not removal. It was finding the point of entry. A home does not simply invite wildlife inside. Somewhere, there is a gap, a gate, or an opening that made the attic accessible.
In this case, the culprit was a single missing roof tile. What might seem like a small, cosmetic issue from the ground had opened a direct path into the attic space above our Owner’s home.
Bringing in the Right Professional
Raccoons are not something our team handles directly. They can be aggressive when cornered, and they carry health risks that require the proper equipment and training to manage safely. For that reason, we coordinated with a licensed animal control professional to remove the raccoon safely and humanely.
Once the animal was removed, our attention turned to the home itself.
Repairing the Roof
A missing tile is an easy thing to overlook until it becomes an entry point for wildlife, water, or both. Our team replaced and properly sealed the tile, closing the gap that allowed the raccoon inside in the first place.
This is precisely the kind of item we look for during a roof tune-up, one of the recurring services included in most of our Home Care Plans. Catching a missing or damaged tile early can prevent the exact situation our Terra Bella Owner experienced.
