Luxury homes are often judged by what you can see at first glance — materials, scale, finishes, and technology. Those elements matter, of course, but after decades of building custom homes, some of the most valuable design decisions prove themselves only after living in the house.
During a recent visit to our Professional Partner, Ferguson Home, one such detail stood out:

A pot filler installed low on the wall!
Enthralled by this creative solution, we had to learn more.
Designing for Our Owners
Traditionally, we install pot fillers above our Owners’ cooktop to fill large pots. They are useful for Owners who cook often, entertain regularly, or prefer to limit carrying heavy cookware across the kitchen. They also support aging in place by reducing repetitive lifting.

Who knew that same logic can extend even to our fur-babies?
In this case, the pot filler was installed specifically to fill a dog’s water bowl. Instead of lifting a heavy bowl (or bowls), spilling water across your floors, or bending down repeatedly throughout the day, the water bowl is filled directly in place!
It reflects a broader design principle we apply to the custom homes we build: form follows function, and function should support how you and your family live.
Small Decisions That Remove Daily Friction
Details like a dog bowl pot filler are rarely the items Owners request on day one. They emerge from conversations that focus on routines:
- How does your family move through the house each day?
- Where do small frustrations show up repeatedly?
- What decisions can be made now that make living in the home easier long term?
We have seen this play out in many ways. We recall one family that recently shared with us how much they appreciated the guidance we provided during their fence design.
These Owners had a small six-pound dog. Standard fence spacing would have allowed the dog to slip through. Because the question was asked early, the solution was adjusted before construction began.
That type of foresight comes with decades of understanding how our Owners function in a space.
Professional Partners
Showrooms like Ferguson Home are valuable not because they showcase all the beautiful features you can install in your home, but because they demonstrate creative solutions for everyday living. That’s the point of custom – a home uniquely designed for you and your family.
Alongside advanced lighting systems, digital showers, water filtration, and cooktop conveniences, the dog bowl pot filler fits naturally. This is a practical application of a standard fixture used in a smarter way.
Custom Homes Are About Personalization
Not every home needs a pot filler for a dog bowl. Many of our Owners do not own dogs. The point is not the fixture itself — it is how we use intentionally design a home for YOUR family.

Custom homes should reflect how Owners live today and how they expect to live years from now. That requires listening, asking questions, and resisting the urge to default to standard layouts or expected features.
At Garabedian Properties, we believe good design starts with understanding routines. Sometimes that leads to advanced technology. Other times, it leads to rethinking a simple detail.
Oftentimes, those are the decisions Owners appreciate the most.
If you are considering a custom build or renovation and want guidance on designing a home that works for how you actually live, we are always available to talk through those details.
